Click here for important information links: Lee County Child Care Facilities What is novel H1N1 flu? Novel H1N1 flu is a new and very different influenza virus that is spreading worldwide among people. This new virus is also called “swine flu” because it has pieces of flu viruses found in pigs in the past. However, novel H1N1 virus has not been detected in U.S. pigs. Influenza is unpredictable, but scientists believe that the new H1N1 virus will cause illness, hospital stays and deaths over the coming months. Already we have seen many more flu cases than usually are seen during August and September. Lee County schools have seen several cases of influenza-like illnesses. Many of these have been tested and confirmed to be H1N1 or “swine” flu. Symptoms have included fever, cough, sore throat, runny or stuffy noses, body aches, headache, chills and fatigue. Some people may also have vomiting and diarrhea.
